“I must say that reading Martha Steward’s “Darby’s Story” was better than I anticipated. I hear stories every single day about the wonderful personalities of people’s rescued dog, how smart they are, how loving they are… As a veterinarian I KNOW how rewarding it is to adopt and save the life of a homeless dog. They simply become loved family members.
I encourage animal lovers and readers to buy a copy, visit www.darbysstory.com .

I am a proud mother of a Marine. In the book of Darby’sStory, I share the experience of letting go and watching my son grow into a man. One day my son may need this compassionate organization. Need I say more….
PETS FOR PATRIOTS AND THE TODAY SHOW!
Pets for Patriots is a non-for-profit organization with a vision to end animal homelessness by supporting the permanent adoption of at-risk shelter pets with every available, able and willing military family. Pets for Patriots connects adult and other at-risk shelter pets with U.S. veterans, wounded warriors and service members.
What sets Pets for Patriots apart from other organizations is that once veterans adopt an eligible pet, Pets for Patriots provides them with access to ongoing, reduced cost veterinary care and direct financial assistance to make pet ownership achievable and affordable. Pets for Patriots doesn’t accept private donations of animals for veterans and they only work with specific shelter partners.
As with any non-profit organization they can use your help. You can Adopt a Patriot to help make the purchase of pet food, supplies, toys and other basics more affordable for their veterans and service members. Or you can Adopt a Shelter to help fund their Kennel Tag program, which provides laminated, reusable tags that are attached to kennels of Pets for Patriots eligible pets, to increase their visibility in the shelter and their chance to be adopted. Don’t forget, any donation made to Pets for Patriots is tax deductible and helping our veterans find a loving companion is the least we can do.
Pets for Patriots is our first non-profit organization to win a free day on IWYS. If you’re a non-profit or charitable organization you can win one of the remaining 10 free days by submitting your organization here.

Celebrating 17th Annual Spay Day Feb 22, 2011

Spay Day an annual observation on the last Tuesday of February. Inspired by Doris DayAnimal League to draw public awareness of an ever growing pet population. Since 1994 the campaign to encourage animal population control by neutering pets grew to be successful. In 2002, the event’s goal was to spay and neuter 200,000 pets across the United States
In 2006 Doris Day Animal League and The Humane Society of the United States and later Humane Society International celebrate Spay Day to inspire people to save animals’ lives by spaying or neutering pets and feral cats.
