Taking the Pet Blogger Challenge 2011
I hope all the participants had fun with their answers and that we all learn a bit in the sharing. And so, without further ado …
1. When did you begin your blog?
My first blog was back in September of 2009. A new challenge for myself to learn about blogs and social networking. I had no idea what or how to contact with people to share my hopes, dreams and the mission statement.
2. What was your original purpose for starting a blog?
The mission statement for Darby’s Story Blog, is to reach out to literacy, animal rescue groups and programs. I wanted to pay forward the years of love and devotion Darby shared with his forever home. I wanted to spread the word about Darby’s Story and the benefits of adopting a shelter animal and encourage would be adopter to take a look first at the rescue organizations.
3. Is your current purpose the same?
The current purpose of Darby’s Story blog is still the same. To provide a book detailing the adoption process and the enjoyment of picking the right animal for your family needs. To offer any non-profit animal rescue organization and program the profits of each sale of Darby’s Story
If so, how do you feel you’ve met your goals?
Not yet, reaching out to individuals and organizations present a challenge, to provide the person a copy of the book and consider placing Darby’s Story on the web bookstore or provide Darby’s Story as a thank you gift for a generous donation. Linking with other caring compassion like-minded animal lovers, I will keep blogging and networking to spread the word.
4. Do you blog on a schedule or as the spirit moves you?
I work during the week and WordPress allows me to schedule blogs. My efforts and focus is to provide and inspire the followers to participate. Most recently I have blogged to help fundraisers for SOS Labrador Rescue in Georgia, The free spay and neuter program in Lake County, Ca. and The Big Read, a program encouraging parents to read to their children.
If the latter, do you worry about… well, whatever you might worry about (e.g. losing traffic, losing momentum)?
Darby’s Story Blog is about supporting others, a pay forward if you will in memory of Darby.
5. Are you generating income from your blog?
Personally No, My intent to know the animal organizations and programs are meeting their monthly, quarterly goals to rescue animals and place them in foster programs and find their forever homes.
If so, how (e.g. sponsor ads, affiliate relationships, spokesperson opportunities)?
Maybe in the future, and again the funds would be given to a rescue program.
6. What do you like most about blogging in general and your blog in particular (bragging is good!)?
Finding an animal organization seeking more public awareness for their fundraising goals, reading about animals that have been transported across this country to their forever homes. The emails and encouragement to keep networking, the referrals from family and friends.
7. What do you like least?
Not sure if the reader is passing up a opportunity to help their local animal rescue program. The reader may be timid to ask me, what and how this can work for them. A simple solution email
8. How do you see your blog changing/growing in 2011?
Adding more animal rescue programs, blogging more for their causes.
