“G” Growing up Different…

No surprise for me, finding a children’s book with a boy and his dog story with inspiring pet adoption theme. Children’s books with leading characters, like this dog called Rocky. Rocky is  a fluffy and cute dog with tender sweet eyes.  He has a big heart with lots of love, yet Rocky feels out of place. John Allen is a young boy tired of many things; bathing, going to school, and being different.

Please welcome Dicy McCullough and the illustrator Jean Barlow. Together these two ladies have expressed to kids a very special message through the eyes of Rocky and John Allen.  The book series, Tired of My Bath, Tired of School and Tired of Being Different, written in rhythm are suitable for emerging and reluctant readers, even older kids enjoy the book series.

Dicy is a retired music teacher who began writing poetry in 2006. She says, “Two years later, I started writing short stories and now write a human interest column for a local newspaper, the Salisbury Post, Salisbury, NC. The idea for my first children’s book came about because I noticed children were always tired of something. Tired of My Bath and Tired of School are the first two books in the series. These stories have been a lot of fun to write, and I would very much like to visit your school, church, or community to share them with you.”

Here’s a book review for the series from Youth Muse.com ~

Fresh words for an exhausting nightly activity. Kids aren’t the only ones tired of these routines!

My 7-year-old could fully relate as he laughed and smiled. I heard no compliant at bath time tonight.

The books are fun to read and emotionally spot-on.

The subtler messages leave the child with his own ideas, allowing
him to form new ones. None of the force-fed, authoritative moral messages.

Her series consists of: “Tired of my Bath” and “Tired of School.”   http://youthmuse.com/the-tired-routine/
